Florals for Spring

Creating a spring table with @jennymontecito

The winter rains have given so much life to my garden, resulting in an abundant harvest from my first flush of heirloom roses. I love designing florals from what is growing around me, and luckily with our mild climate, I can cut from my roses as early as April and as late as November, but they are the most lush in late spring—perfect for Easter and Mother's Day.

My favorite heirloom roses for the garden are the Wild Eve, Dylan, Desdemona, and Wollerton Old Hall varieties, which range from soft pinks to corals. Garden roses don't always have the most robust stems, so I love to layer in stronger plants like spirea branches and tree peonies. Leaves and foliage from the rose bushes themselves also work beautifully.

With such bold floral faces, I keep the rest of the table simple and muted, with dusty pink and mauve tapers from The Floral Society, and minimalist plates from Sheldon Ceramics. Floppy eared bunnies are completely optional, but their cuteness is undeniable.

If you don't have roses in your garden, Rose Story Farm and Florabundance are wonderful local places to source from, or if you have rose lovers amongst your friends, you could always ask to help them "trim" their gardens—the more you cut, the more they grow.
